Scarlett Johansson has signed up to star in a new film by John Carney, the Irish writer-director responsible for the hit 2006 indie musical film Once.

On the same week that the sleeper Bridesmaids crossed the $100 million domestic gross mark, Universal Pictures has just made a preemptive acquisition of an original comic pitch that will re-team its director, Paul Feig, with Bridesmaids producer Judd Apatow.

Universal and Judd Apatow are going to stick it to those selfless celebrities with pet causes. The studio is in negotiations to pick up Do Gooders, a pitch from Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck, who will write the script. Apatow will produce via his Apatow Productions.

The project is Business Trip and it was set up a while ago at Universal. But now mogul Judd Apatow has come on to produce with Benderspink, and Judd's wife Leslie Mann (who also was in his Funny People) will star. They want a January 2011 release date.
