Peter Chernin and Universal Pictures are headed to the ballet, nabbing a pitch from writers Jon Gunn and John Mann that's a spin on the Nutcracker story.

Paramount has extended its business with Mattel, optioning the venerable toy Magic 8 Ball to use as the basis for a live action adventure film.
