Robocop Movie Updates

Sony Pictures is signing on to distribute MGM‘s Robocop, the remake of the 1987 Paul Verhoeven-directed science fiction film that will star Joel Kinnaman in the role originated by Peter Weller.

MGM has closed its deal with Joel Kinnaman to play the title role in Robocop, the remake that is being directed by Jose Padilha, helmer of two action packed Elite Squad films.

Swedish actor Joel Kinnaman has been offered the lead of MGM’s remake of Robocop, the 1987 sci-fi action movie about a cyborg policeman.

MGM has hired Gran Torino screenwriter Nick Schenk to work on the screenplay for RoboCop. Jose Padilha is attached to direct the action sci-fi reboot.

Meanwhile, online reports have repeated news that Padilha reportedly wants actor Michael Fassbender as his star. But Padilha insists that talk is very premature, no one has even been approached for the title role, and that Fassbender’s name only came up as one in a larger discussion of actors he liked—and pushed for that answer ...
