The project has been in development since 2009 (first posted on Movie Insider, 07/21/09)
Director Michael Gracey said the film would be a "return to the classic film musical." He likened it to West Side Story, Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music (Hollywood Reporter, 6/21/2016).
Pic will have a contemporary musical score, and the studio is in talks with British singer-songwriter Mika to write music and lyrics. The Lind role is being scripted for Anne Hathaway, who teamed with Jackman in his opening Oscars number.
