What's the story about?

Plot

Set in the future, Manhattan had been turned into an island-sized maximum security prison. When the president of the United States crashes into the decaying city, Snake Plissken, an outlaw, is coerced into traveling inside to rescue him. Plissken is given 22 hours to liberate the president. If he fails, he’s wired to explode.

• Leigh Whannell is on-board to write the script with the door open to possibly direct (Hollywood Reporter, 2/1/19). His mandate is to retain elements of the original but bring new ideas to the table.
• Remake of the 1981 film by John Carpenter.
• At one point, Len Wiseman was attached to direct the project before apparently being replaced by Brett Ratner. As things stand right now, Jonathan Mostow has been brought into to do a rewrite, with an option to direct (10/31/07)
