In a time of war, Brother Edik finds Beatryce, a girl hunted by the king, hidden in a monastery stall with a goat named Answelica. She holds a dangerous secret tied to a prophecy Edik once wrote. Beatryce sets out to confront her fate, supported by a loyal monk, a former king, a boy with a sword, and her goat.
