An 18-year-old's best friend takes her own life. Looking for answers, the teen begins a brave and dangerous journey that takes her from her dead-end Washington town to Meg’s college dorm, to the clubs of Seattle, to the deserts of Nevada, and to the darkest parts of her own psyche. And as she looks for the whys and hows of her friend’s death, she is forced to face the meanings of love, friendship, guilt and forgiveness.
Set in a town where a single mother and a teenage girl were found dead in a river within a few months of each other. The story centers on a 15-year-old girl, who has been left parentless while caring for her mother’s sister — a fearful stranger who has been dragged back to the place she deliberately ran from.
