In the pre-Civil War United States, Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery. The true story of mountain climber Aron Ralston's (James Franco) adventure to save himself after a fallen boulder crashes on his arm and traps him in an isolated canyon in Utah.
